Betty's Rockster Review
House of Hound's very own Gregg Wallace has performed the ultimate palatability test on Rockster food. Read the full report by Betty (a 7-year old miniature Labradoodle) and her owner Claire, who were chosen by Edinburgh's leading pet food store House of Hound, to perform a Master Chef style review about Rockster Superfood.
Below is Betty's fantastic review of her week on Rockster Superfood, which (spoiler alert!) she absolutely loved! Thank you Betty (and Claire!), and House of Hound for your wonderful efforts - you ROCK!!
Betty's Summary:
"So, as I’m sure you can tell, we were massively impressed with this food. Yes, it’s a little more expensive than some foods you’ll find, but I firmly believe that it’s worth it. The amount of research that has gone into producing something of this quality for us pups can only be a positive thing and we have no doubt that, over time and as I get older, we will be able to see some real health benefits to eating such delicious, healthy, top quality food.
I give this food 5 Betty stars and I will definitely be adding Rockster food to the “please buy regularly” shopping list!"
THE FULL 5-STAR ROCKSTER REVIEW:
"So firstly, I just have to say that I’m so delighted to have been asked to try out this fabulous food! I’m a Labradoodle who loves her food and would happily eat anything my Humans put in front of me. However, I have two health conscious Humans who try their best to give me the best food they can find for their lively 7 year old Doodle, so we’re all so excited to see what I make of this beautiful looking stuff!
This food has been created by a family who rescued a dog they named “The Rockster” while they were on holiday several years ago. Their main aim is to provide food that we not only love to eat but that will also naturally enhance our health, wellbeing and lifespan. Sounds perfect to me!
This ultra-premium food is the world’s first genuine life-enhancing superfood for dogs and each recipe is a single protein formula, suitable for dogs with allergies. The recipes are made with bio-organic ingredients, combining the highest quality meat with super foods such as fermented Jerusalem artichoke concentrate, seabuckthorn, spirulina, quinoa, pharma-grade salmon oil, sweet potatoes, green-lipped mussel and superfruits. So much delicious, super-healthy sounding stuff! Bring it on!
There’s loads more information about the company and the food on the Rockster website, including The Rockster’s story and some fab photos, so I recommend you give it a read.
Packaging
As you can see, the packaging is ultra-stylish and eye catching. The flavour of the food is written at the bottom and the label clearly states that the food contains no gluten, grains, cereals, chemicals, preservatives or fillers. There’s loads of info on the back, telling us exactly what the food contains, how it has been prepared and even where the ingredients come from. We were so impressed to read that Rockster has been officially certified as a “superfood for dogs” by one of Germany’s leading experts in dog nutrition and has achieved official EU Bio certification to prove that it uses only the highest quality ingredients, with a meat content of more than 80%. The tins contain 410g of food and the handy little feeding guide on the back tells us how much a dog of my size and weight should be eating. In addition to the info on the back of the can, there’s also a handy little food calculator on the Rockster website, which gives even more detail about how much your dog should eat in a day (I would quite happily eat the whole lot at great speed and in one large mouthful, so the Humans found it helpful to be able to check exactly how much to feed my hungry tum!). I’ll be eating around half a tin per day so must remember to keep the remainder of the can chilled!
Taste
I’m not a fussy Doodle. In fact, it’s fair to say that I’ll eat pretty much anything. However, I can sometimes turn my nose up at my breakfast, which is a constant source of irritation to my Humans. They like to know that I’ve at least eaten something at the beginning of the day and are always looking for ways to get me to eat my morning kibble when it’s put in front of me. Well, I think we’ve found the solution! Stand aside, kibble - The Rockster is coming through!
I was given 3 delicious flavours to try:
Heaven & Earth (Bio-organic rabbit)
Boeuf du Cap (Bio-organic beef)
Birds of a Feather (Bio-organic chicken & turkey)
The Humans wondered if I would eat the rabbit or beef flavours, as I usually eat chicken or salmon flavoured food, but they needn’t have worried! All flavours have been sampled and all were eaten at speed and with enthusiasm. There’s a half-eaten tin of Heaven & Earth in the fridge with my name on it and I CAN’T WAIT for tea time!
See below for photographic evidence of how much I enjoy eating Rockster food!
Energy
I have a lot of energy. In fact, loads! I may be 7, but I can outrun most puppies in the park! So, it came as no surprise that this food hasn’t decreased my energy levels but has ensured that I’ve had the stamina to zoom, whizz and bounce my way through my week with plenty of doodle craziness! I am, to quote the Humans, “on top form!”
This:
So I guess no proper food review would be complete without a section about my toilet activities. I’ll keep this brief.
Everything I’ve produced since I’ve started eating Rockster food has been extremely healthy looking, in normal quantities and at usual times.
That’ll do. No photographic evidence required!
Coat
Now, I’m very proud of my fashionable curly perm. I’m aware that my face is perhaps slightly overgrown at the moment, so a trip to the beautician could well be on the cards. However, as part of this consumer test, the Humans have been brushing me every night to see if they notice any changes in my perm quality. I’ve even had to endure a couple of baths! At this stage, they can’t really see much difference, but I’ll report back in the near future…
Further Research
Time for a special guest! She's small, extra cute, can do some amazing tricks and loves a liver cake - it's Hettie!!
My good mate Hettie was super envious when she found out that I’d been asked to test this awesome food so, being the generous little bear that I am, I decided to give her a can to see what she made of it.
Like me, she LOVED the food and cleared her bowl each time she was fed it, which is quite unusual for young Hettie. She tends to be a bit more fussy than I am, so her Human was delighted, and she apparently went mad each time the can emerged from the fridge. Her Human would definitely buy this food and, like us, loved reading The Rockster’s story.
Summary
So, as I’m sure you can tell, we were massively impressed with this food.
I give this food 5 Betty stars and I will definitely be adding Rockster food to the “please buy regularly” shopping list!
Thank you for reading and thank you again to my friends at House of Hound for choosing me for this enjoyable experiment!"
